Dr Teresa Wood

Nearly 40 years’ experience · Hairdressing since 1987

I have nearly 40 years’ experience in the hair industry, having started hairdressing in 1987. Over the course of my career, I have developed extensive experience in hairdressing, trichology, scalp health, hair loss and non-surgical hair replacement. This combination of practical and clinical knowledge allows me to provide personalised advice and support tailored to each client’s individual needs.

Specialities

My main speciality is trichology: investigating hair loss, scalp disorders and changes in hair density to help identify the underlying cause and determine the most appropriate next steps. I particularly enjoy working with complex hair-loss and scalp conditions, where a detailed consultation and individualised approach are especially important.

During a consultation, I take the time to understand each client’s concerns, medical and hair history, lifestyle and personal circumstances. I assess the hair and scalp carefully and, where appropriate, may recommend further investigations or referral to another healthcare professional. My aim is to provide clear information, practical guidance and reassurance, while ensuring that clients understand the options available to them.

I also specialise in non-surgical hair replacement, including mesh integration, toppers and hair systems, as well as medical wigs. These solutions can help clients manage visible hair loss, thinning or changes in hair density while maintaining a natural appearance and personal style.

My hairdressing background enables me to consider the complete picture, including scalp health, hair condition, hair loss and the cosmetic options available to help clients feel confident again. I can advise on suitable styles, colours, fitting and maintenance, ensuring that any hair replacement solution is comfortable, practical and appropriate for the client’s lifestyle.

I understand that hair loss can affect much more than appearance. It can influence confidence, emotional wellbeing and everyday life. I therefore aim to create a welcoming, discreet and supportive environment where clients feel listened to, respected and comfortable discussing their concerns.

Qualifications

I hold:

I also have a PhD in Trichology, am an Associate Member of the Institute of Trichologists (RIT) and complete ongoing CPD each year to keep my knowledge and skills up to date.

My continued professional development enables me to stay informed about current research, developments in hair and scalp care, and the latest approaches to supporting clients experiencing hair loss or scalp concerns. I believe that ongoing learning is essential in providing a professional, informed and compassionate service.

Number one hair care tip

Look after your scalp as well as your hair. Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp, so don’t ignore persistent itching, inflammation, excessive shedding or changes in hair density. Having the cause investigated early can make a significant difference, as early advice and appropriate support may help prevent concerns from becoming more difficult to manage.

I also recommend using products that are suitable for your hair and scalp type, avoiding excessive heat and harsh chemical treatments, and handling the hair gently when washing, brushing and styling. A healthy routine should include regular cleansing, careful conditioning and avoiding tight hairstyles that place unnecessary tension on the hair and scalp.

Most importantly, try not to self-diagnose based solely on information found online. Hair loss and scalp problems can have many different causes, so professional advice can help ensure that the concern is assessed properly and that the most appropriate course of action is considered.

I specialise in wig fitting and supporting clients through their wig journey, helping them feel comfortable, confident and completely themselves. I enjoy all aspects of hairdressing and love being able to create different looks for each individual client. One of my favourite things to do is hair-up and styling, especially creating something that feels a little bit special for an occasion.

As well as being a Senior Stylist, I enjoy the management side of the salon and being part of a team. I love helping clients feel their best when they leave the salon and building a relationship with them so they feel comfortable and confident in our care.

Number one hair care tip

Treat your hair like you would your skin — it needs regular care, protection and the right products to keep it healthy. My biggest tip would be to invest in good-quality professional products that are suited to your individual hair, and always use heat protection. Looking after your hair little and often makes such a difference, rather than waiting until your hair feels damaged or dry before giving it some extra love!

One of the things I’m most proud of in my work is creating a safe, warm, friendly and completely judgement-free environment for our LGBTQ+ community. Everyone deserves to feel welcomed, respected, heard and able to be their authentic self. Creating a space where people feel comfortable, valued and accepted isn’t just part of what I do — it’s something I genuinely care about.

Our Hair and Scalp Spa appointments are also one of my absolute favourite treatments to offer. The YUME experience is truly next-level relaxation — a beautiful opportunity to switch off, unwind and let the stresses of the day melt away. From the moment you settle in, the focus is on you. A tranquil experience designed to leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and completely pampered.

What I love most about hairdressing is creating a fabulous haircut. I especially love bobs, short hair and anything with a bit of style and personality. I also love colour and creating hair that looks healthy, shiny and refreshed.

Highlights are another favourite of mine, but I’m always up for having a bit of fun with colour too — especially when it comes to bright, bold and creative shades! 🌈

For me, the most important part of being a hairdresser is listening to my clients. I want to understand exactly what you’d like, while also being honest about what we can realistically achieve while keeping your hair healthy and in the best possible condition.

Number one hair care tip

Limit high-heat styling and always use a heat protectant whenever you’re using heated tools such as straighteners, curling tongs or a hairdryer.

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp, but preventing damage and breakage is key to retaining length, shine and overall hair health.

I have been helping the team at Chameleons every Saturday for the past year. I’ve learned so much working alongside the team and have gained firsthand insight into how the salon works and looks after their clients.

I am currently in full-time education and hope to continue into an apprenticeship.
