Children & young people

Every child is different.

Hair loss can be difficult at any age, but for a child or young person it can have a particularly significant effect on confidence, school life and emotional wellbeing.

At Chameleons Hair and Scalp, we provide a calm, discreet and supportive environment for children and young people experiencing hair loss, thinning or scalp concerns.

We understand that every child is different. Appointments are adapted to the individual child, allowing plenty of time to explain what is happening in an age-appropriate and reassuring way.

Assessments

Children’s hair and scalp assessments

Hair loss in children can have many different causes. A specialist assessment can help establish what may be happening and whether further medical investigation or referral is appropriate.

We can assess concerns including:

During an assessment, the hair and scalp can be examined closely using specialist magnification. Where appropriate, we may also recommend that parents discuss blood tests, dermatology referral or further medical investigation with their child’s GP.

Support

Supporting the child, not just the hair loss.

We recognise that an appointment involving hair loss can feel daunting for a child.

Our approach is gentle and unhurried. Parents or carers can remain involved throughout the appointment, and children are encouraged to have a say in how they would like their hair or hair replacement to look.

We also offer a private environment and quieter appointments where required, which can be particularly helpful for children who feel anxious or overwhelmed in a busy salon setting.
