About the clinic
Trichology built on science and care
Chameleons Hair and Scalp is a private clinic in Plymouth dedicated to understanding hair and scalp problems properly — and treating them with care, honesty and evidence.
Our philosophy
Three principles behind every plan
Hair problems are rarely simple, and they’re often personal. These principles shape how we work with every client.
Evidence first
Every recommendation is based on careful assessment and established research — never on trends or one-size-fits-all products.
The whole person
Hair reflects overall health. We look at diet, stress, hormones, medication and lifestyle as well as the scalp itself.
Honest advice
If we can help, we'll show you how. If you need a GP, blood tests or a dermatologist, we'll tell you — and explain why.
Your consultant trichologist
Meet Dr Teresa Wood
Consultant Trichologist · PhD RIT
I have nearly 40 years’ experience in the hair industry. Over the course of my career, I have developed extensive experience in trichology, scalp health and hair loss. This combination of practical and clinical knowledge allows me to provide personalised advice and support tailored to each client’s individual needs.
I complete ongoing CPD each year to stay informed about current research, developments in hair and scalp care, and the latest approaches to supporting clients experiencing hair loss or scalp concerns. I believe that ongoing learning is essential in providing a professional, informed and compassionate service.
My main speciality is trichology: investigating hair loss, scalp disorders and changes in hair density to help identify the underlying cause and determine the most appropriate next steps. I particularly enjoy working with complex hair-loss and scalp conditions, where a detailed consultation and individualised approach are especially important.
During a consultation, I take the time to understand each client’s concerns, medical and hair history, lifestyle and personal circumstances. I assess the hair and scalp carefully and, where appropriate, may recommend further investigations or referral to another healthcare professional. My aim is to provide clear information, practical guidance and reassurance, while ensuring that clients understand the options available to them.
I understand that hair loss can affect much more than appearance. It can influence confidence, emotional wellbeing and everyday life. I therefore aim to create a welcoming, discreet and supportive environment where clients feel listened to, respected and comfortable discussing their concerns.

Trichology explained
What is trichology?
Trichology is the study of the hair and scalp. A trichologist assesses hair loss, thinning, breakage and scalp conditions, identifies the likely causes and recommends treatment — from targeted in-clinic therapies and home care to nutritional and lifestyle changes.
Trichologists aren’t medical doctors, but we work alongside GPs and dermatologists, and knowing when to refer is part of good practice. Many people come to us after trying product after product; what they needed first was a diagnosis.
When to see a trichologist
- Sudden or increased shedding
- A widening parting, thinning crown or receding hairline
- Patches of hair loss
- Persistent itching, flaking or soreness
- Hair that breaks easily or won't grow
